South Yorkshire Transport | News // Have your say on transport!

South Yorkshire residents are being given the opportunity to shape the region's local transport strategy over the next decade by the South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority. The South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority has compiled a questionnaire ahead of a review of transport strategy across South Yorkshire, inviting comments on what the public and businesses want from their local transport network from 2010 to 2026.

The questionnaire will help to establish views on the critical role of transport in supporting economic growth and regeneration, enhancing quality of life and environment, reducing carbon emissions and making transport safer and more secure.

Cllr Mick Jameson, chairman of South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority, said: "By 2011, we will have put in place a new long-term strategy for transport in South Yorkshire. Transport affects all of us and it is vital that we focus on investment on those transport improvements that will have most benefit for our region overall and for local communities, businesses and individuals. This is about what kind of place we want South Yorkshire to be in 20 years' time and what this will mean for our transport systems. The public's input is therefore essential and the feedback we receive from this questionnaire means we can develop a strategy that we know the local community want to see."

The South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan Partnership is made up of Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Borough Councils, Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and the South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority.

The new strategy will aim to meet the economic, social and environmental aspirations for the people of South Yorkshire.
