Bus passengers in Sheffield are being encouraged to get on board the city’s Back the Bid campaign by taking part in a special Stagecoach football competition. To show support for Sheffield’s 2018 bid to host World Cup matches, leading bus operator Stagecoach Yorkshire has launched a new Golden Balls game. On Friday, October 16th, to mark the Sheffield FA’s Back the Bid Day, two golden footballs will be hidden somewhere on Stagecoach buses in the city. The official Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday footballs will be decorated with golden ribbon and a bow. The two lucky passengers who find a golden football will receive a year’s free travel with Stagecoach. Rupert Cox, commercial director at Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “Sheffield has a proud history of football and we hope this competition creates a real buzz amongst passengers to help build support for the city’s bid to host World Cup matches in 2018.” If England is successful in its bid to host the 2018 World Cup, Sheffield is proposing games could be staged at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium and at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough ground. Final submissions from the FA are due in November with a decision to be made in early December on which cities would be possible locations for the England bid. For more information visit |
