The bus and tram gate restrictions at Hillsborough corner on Middlewood Road and Langsett Road are being relaxed, meaning that motorists can pass through the gates during the middle of the day and all day Sunday.
From 7th November motorists can drive through the bus and tram gate on Middlewood Road and Langsett Road between 11am and 3pm Monday to Saturday, and from 7pm to 7am every night. You can also drive through all day Sunday. Drivers will not be able to drive through Monday to Saturday from 7am until 11am and from 3pm until 7pm.
Councillor Ian Auckland, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport and Streetscene at Sheffield City Council said: “After listening to the concerns of motorists and local people I’m so glad we’ve been able to bring about these changes at Hillsborough. We’ve been working hard to try and relax the restrictions and have been waiting for the Department for Transport to approve the new signs. Now that it has been approved we can lift restrictions during the middle of the day and on Sundays to help people get in and out of Hillsborough more freely whilst still helping the buses and trams run to time during peak periods.”
Motorists still can't drive through the bus and tram gate at the end of Holme Lane at any time.
Councillor Auckland added: “the changes at Hillsborough are experimental and will be subject to ongoing monitoring to see if the remaining restrictions are the most appropriate, and that the relaxation gives a boost to trade in Hillsborough.”
Whether you are visiting Hillsborough to shop, take in a visit to the library or the park, or maybe even watch some football, there are plenty of places to park including a free car park at Hillsborough Barracks.
Thanks,
Staff at South Yorkshire Transport
